Making Room for Others to Succeed [Attorney #179]

Scripture

“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:4

Devotional

Competition can make another person’s success feel threatening. When someone receives recognition, lands an important client, wins a significant case, or advances professionally, comparison can quietly enter your heart. Christian leadership calls you to a different posture—one that genuinely celebrates and supports the growth of others.

You lose nothing by helping another person become better. In fact, some of your greatest professional influence may eventually come through people you helped develop. Making room for others means sharing opportunities, giving appropriate credit, teaching what you know, recommending qualified people, and allowing talented colleagues to receive visibility.

Insecure leadership hoards opportunity, but secure leadership multiplies it. Jesus invested deeply in His disciples knowing they would eventually carry responsibilities far beyond their current abilities. He prepared others to lead rather than keeping every important role for Himself. Your profession needs leaders willing to do the same. Success is not diminished when it is shared.

Reflection Questions

• How do I respond internally when someone around me succeeds?

• Am I intentionally creating opportunities for other people to grow?

Action Step

Give someone else an opportunity, introduction, recommendation, or recognition that could help them advance professionally.

Prayer

Lord, free me from unhealthy comparison. Help me genuinely celebrate others and use my influence to help them grow and succeed. Amen.
