Philippians 2:3 — “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

Ambition at work can easily slip into self-promotion—pushing yourself forward, taking credit, and competing for the spotlight. Paul warns against selfish ambition and calls you instead to humility: counting others as more significant and making room for them to flourish.
In practical terms, this might look like sharing credit generously, promoting someone else’s good idea, mentoring a younger colleague, or refraining from dominating every conversation. It means you’re not threatened by others’ success; you actually celebrate it because your identity is secure in Christ.
When you make space for others to shine, you reflect the heart of Jesus, who humbled Himself and lifted others up. Ironically, people often remember and respect those who helped them succeed far more than those who only chased their own glory.

Where does selfish ambition show up in your work life—subtly or overtly?
Who around you could use encouragement, mentorship, or a chance to be seen and heard?
How can you intentionally make space for someone else to shine this week?
Prayer
Jesus, You humbled Yourself for my sake. Expose selfish ambition in my heart and replace it with true humility. Help me count others as more significant, rejoice in their success, and use my influence to help them flourish. Amen.
