Marketplace Mission Trip Week - Day 1: PRAY
Welcome to the Marketplace Mission Trip
Welcome to Day 1 of the Follower of One - Marketplace Mission Trip. Workplace Ministries, Inc. is partnering with Follower of One to provide this 1-week mission trip experience.
For the next five days, we are inviting Christians from many different professions and workplaces to approach their ordinary work with a missionary mindset. You do not need to travel somewhere else to participate in this mission trip. Your workplace is your mission field.
Whether you are an accountant, attorney, banker, broker, financial advisor, healthcare professional, real estate developer, sales professional, business owner, or working in another vocation, God has already placed people around you whom you can serve, encourage, and influence for Christ.
This week is about becoming more intentional with the opportunities God has already placed in front of you.
And it begins with prayer.
Verse
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8 NIV)
Listen to Jesus
Jesus is active right now in the life of everyone you know. For the next 5 days, make yourself available to God daily to do whatever he suggests in the life of everyone you think of or connect with.
Start with Prayer
Tell God you’re ready. Ask him to put you to work. Ask him to use you to bless the people you meet. When we start with prayer, God will let us see his miracles and he will put us to work! For the next 5 days, concentrate on 3 prayers daily:
Punch in. Start by telling God “Here I am.”
Thank God for using you in his plan.
Pray for everyone you will see, talk to, or meet that day.
#1 - Here I am
Six people in scripture used the phrase “Here I am” or “Here am I” when God called. Review the following verses and think about these stories and these people.
They were:1. Abraham (Genesis 22:1, 11)2. Jacob (Genesis 31:11 and 46:2)3. Moses (Exodus 3:4)4. Samuel (1 Samuel 3:4-11)5. Isaiah (Isaiah 6:8)6. Ananias (Acts 9:10)
Jesus wants to put you to work too. In Revelation 3:20, Jesus extends the call to everyone. At the end of the letter to the church at Laodicea, Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.”
#2 – Thank You
Gratitude in everything gives God time to act when we are surprised, disappointed or interrupted. How you react will change if you begin each day thankful for whatever happens. We can be grateful in our circumstances, even during difficult seasons! Ask God to show you how to be grateful for everything that happens.
#3 – Favor for everyone you meet
When you or I speak a blessing to someone, things may or may not happen. But when God speaks, universes appear. Ask God to bless (grant his favor to) everyone you meet. Whether customer, vendor, boss, subordinate, server, family member or anyone who comes to mind, or anyone on your calendar, ask God to bless them and use you!

Now that you've seen this, who comes to mind? Who is on your calendar that you can pray for today?
Going Deeper
Your action item for this week: Ask God to give you the name of one person. Pray for them, and as you do, ask God to give you an idea for how you can bless this person today. Maybe you can send them an encouraging text message or ask how they’re doing. Or send them a card. Remain silent before God until he gives you an idea. Then ACT! Finally, please comment below and let us know what you did.
Your actions cement your habits. Act on this prompt today!
Closing Thoughts
We have prayed and will continue to pray for you. Do you have a friend or partner also on the trip? Let them know you’re praying for them. And if not, then every member of this trip is your partner. You can comment below to make observations or ask questions. You may even see a comment and want to reply - go right ahead. As long as your comments are respectful and don't violate confidences, they'll be appreciated.
If you miss a day, or feel you dropped the ball for a day, don't worry about it. Tomorrow is a new day. Proceed with the next devotional, pray for the people on your calendar, and get back on the horse. You can do this!
Please pray that people are engaged and connected through this effort. In any environment, God works! Ask him to use us to make him visible and known!
We will experience spiritual warfare. Ask God to use and protect you as you take part in today’s activity.
Let’s be intentional to make ourselves available to God and to pray for everyone we think of or interact with for the next 5 days. Jesus will use us to point others to himself.
REMINDER - Each evening Monday - Thursday (Sept 28 - Oct 1) we will be having Mission Trip video calls via Zoom at 7:00 pm central time to gatherings and enjoy the fellowship and testimonies from others on the trip.
