Scripture: “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have…” — Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
Devotional
Commission checks in commercial real estate can be significant. That’s a blessing—but also a danger. Money itself isn’t evil; the love of money is. When financial gain begins to quietly drive your decisions more than obedience to Christ, your integrity is at risk.
The love of money may look like pushing clients into deals that aren’t right for them, focusing only on high-fee opportunities while neglecting smaller but meaningful ones, or compromising your boundaries when a big commission is on the line. Over time, money becomes more than a tool—it becomes an idol.
The antidote is contentment rooted in God’s faithfulness. When you believe He is your Provider—not the market, not your clients, not your production—you are free to make ethical decisions even when they reduce your income. You can walk away from profitable but compromising situations because your heart is anchored somewhere deeper.
Reflection Questions:
· Are there situations where the possibility of a large commission affects my judgment more than it should?
· How can I regularly remind myself that God—not money—is my source and security?
Prayer
Lord, guard my heart from the love of money. Thank You that You are my Provider. Help me pursue obedience over income and trust You with every financial outcome. Amen.
