Scripture: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9

Devotional

Planning is your expertise—retirement projections, investment strategies, tax implications. But Proverbs offers a gentle reminder: God is the One who truly directs outcomes. Your role is important, but His sovereignty is supreme.

This doesn’t negate your efforts—it refines your posture. Faithful advisors plan carefully, but they hold those plans with open hands. You must build structures flexible enough to bend to divine redirection. That applies to your clients’ futures—and your own.

This verse invites both diligence and surrender. Do the work, prepare wisely, but trust deeply. The unexpected client decision, the last-minute change, the delayed result—these may be God’s gentle ways of guiding you beyond what you can see.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Are there any plans—yours or your clients’—that you’re holding too tightly?

  2. How can you practice wise planning without slipping into control or anxiety?

  3. What might God be doing in a situation that didn’t go according to your plan?

Prayer

Father, help me plan with excellence and release with trust. Guide my steps, even when they lead in unexpected directions. Let every plan be submitted to Your will.
