Practicing Law in Light of the Cross [Attorney #54]

Scripture: “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.” — 1 Corinthians 2:2 (ESV)

Devotional

At the center of your faith is a cross. A symbol of justice and mercy intertwined. A place where guilt met grace. As a legal professional, that symbol can become more than a theological concept—it can become a lens for your entire practice.

Paul resolved to center everything on Christ crucified. Not just in preaching, but in how he lived, spoke, and suffered.

When you practice law in light of the cross, you lead with humility, because you’ve been forgiven much. You show mercy when possible, because you’ve received it first. You seek justice, not for self-righteous gain, but to reflect the heart of the Savior who bore injustice for you.

The cross reminds you that your client’s worth is not in their success or innocence, but in the image of God stamped on their soul. It reminds you that truth matters—but so does love.

That outcomes are important—but eternity is ultimate.

Let the cross shape how you think, how you serve, and how you carry yourself in every legal setting.

Because when Christ is your foundation, everything changes—even the way you practice law.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How often do you connect your legal work to the message of the cross?

  2. What would it look like to reflect the mercy and justice of Jesus in a current case?

  3. How might the humility of the cross reshape your interactions with clients, peers, or opponents?

Prayer

Jesus, let the cross guide every part of my life—even my legal work. Make me an ambassador of Your justice, humility, and mercy. Let my practice point others to the One who died and rose again.
