Prepare to Be Sent [Sunday Edition]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” Isaiah 6:8 NIV.
Devotional Tomorrow, we begin our Marketplace Mission Trip. But unlike most mission trips, you do not need to pack a suitcase, board an airplane, or travel to another community. Your mission field is already waiting for you. It is the workplace God has placed you in and the people you encounter there every day.
Throughout Scripture, God accomplishes His purposes through people who are willing to make themselves available to Him. Isaiah responded, “Here am I. Send me!” His first response was not a detailed plan. It was availability.
That is where our Marketplace Mission Trip begins.
For the next five workdays, we will practice five simple habits that can help us become more intentional followers of Jesus at work: Pray, Appreciate Others, Know What You Believe, Serve Others, and Speak for Yourself.
None of these requires you to become someone different on Monday morning. You do not need to force spiritual conversations or have all the answers. You simply need to become more attentive to what God may already be doing around you.
There may be a coworker who needs encouragement. A customer who needs patience. An employee who needs someone to listen. A client facing a difficult situation. A colleague who wonders why you approach your work differently. Or there may simply be an opportunity to quietly serve someone without expecting anything in return.
The people you encounter this week are not interruptions to your mission. They are your mission field.
Today, prepare for the week by giving your work back to God. Think about the people you expect to encounter. Consider your meetings, appointments, phone calls, customers, coworkers, employees, clients, patients, vendors, and others who will cross your path.
Then begin your Marketplace Mission Trip with Isaiah's simple response:
“Here am I. Send me.”
Reflection Questions Who are the people God has already placed in my workplace and sphere of influence?
Am I willing to allow God to interrupt my plans this week if He gives me an opportunity to encourage, serve, or care for someone?
Which of the five daily habits—Pray, Appreciate Others, Know What You Believe, Serve Others, or Speak for Yourself—might God especially want to develop in me?
Action Steps Take a few minutes tonight to look at your calendar for the coming week. Identify several people you expect to encounter and begin praying for them by name.
Then make one commitment for the week:
“Lord, I will make myself available to You each day. Help me recognize the opportunities You place in front of me.”
Tomorrow, we begin with the first habit: Pray.
Prayer Father, thank You for the work You have given me and for the people You have placed around me. As I begin this Marketplace Mission Trip, help me see my workplace through Your eyes. Prepare my heart to pray, appreciate others, know what I believe, serve others, and speak honestly about my own faith when You provide the opportunity. Give me wisdom, courage, humility, and sensitivity to Your leading. Help me recognize the people You place in my path and make me willing to be used by You. Here I am, Lord. Send me. Amen.
