Scripture: “Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.” — Psalm 82:3 (ESV)
Devotional
Every development project impacts real people. A new commercial build may displace local businesses. A residential project may reshape a neighborhood’s affordability. Zoning decisions, land use, and acquisition deals all have ripple effects. Psalm 82:3 reminds us that God's people are to seek justice—not just in word, but in action—especially for the vulnerable.
Developers carry influence. You’re in rooms where plans are made, budgets set, and communities shaped. God calls you to see beyond margins and maps. Who will be affected? Whose voice isn’t being heard? Who might suffer silently if profit is prioritized over people?
This doesn’t mean abandoning your mission—it means aligning it with God's heart. Building with justice means honoring fair wages, preserving dignity in negotiations, resisting gentrification that pushes out the poor, and ensuring developments create opportunity, not just revenue.
You can’t fix every systemic challenge, but you can do right within your sphere. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom to spot injustice, courage to challenge it, and creativity to build differently. In doing so, you not only honor God—you leave behind developments that are just, generous, and redemptive.
Reflection Questions:
Who might be impacted by my decisions who has no voice at the table?
Am I willing to slow down or sacrifice profit to protect people?
What would building with justice look like in my next project?
Prayer
Lord, help me see those my projects affect—not just numbers, but names. Teach me to build with justice, compassion, and courage. Let my work lift people up, not push them out. Amen.
