Protecting Your Priorities [Attorney #164]
Scripture
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Matthew 6:33.
Devotional
The legal profession can easily consume every area of life if boundaries and priorities are not carefully protected.
Urgent demands constantly compete for your attention. There is always another case, another deadline, another responsibility requiring your focus. Without intentionality, work can slowly crowd out relationships, rest, spiritual growth, and personal health.
God calls you to live with ordered priorities.
Seeking His kingdom first means placing your relationship with Him above professional ambition. It means recognizing that while your work is important, it is not ultimate.
Healthy priorities create stability. They protect you from burnout and help ensure that success in one area does not come at the expense of what matters most.
Protecting priorities requires discipline. Sometimes it means saying no. Sometimes it means stepping away from work intentionally so you can invest in spiritual renewal, family, or rest.
The most successful career means little if the deeper foundations of life are neglected.
God designed your life to function with balance and alignment—not constant imbalance and striving.
Reflection Questions
• Are my current priorities aligned with what matters most?
• What areas of life have I unintentionally neglected?
Action Step
Take one intentional step today to protect a priority outside of work—spiritual renewal, family, rest, or personal health.
Prayer
Father, help me keep my priorities aligned with Your will. Teach me to steward my work and my life with wisdom and balance. Amen.
