Scripture
Ephesians 5:16 — “…making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”
Devotional
Not every moment at work is packed with activity. There are lulls—slow seasons, waiting for responses, gaps between tasks. Downtime can easily become wasted time, filled with mindless scrolling, complaining, or unhealthy habits.
Stewarding downtime doesn’t mean you must be frantically productive every second. It means you see these pauses as opportunities rather than emptiness. You might use them to learn something new, organize your space, encourage a coworker, pray for your team, think strategically, or simply rest mindfully before the next wave.
“Making the best use of the time” is about intentionality. When you offer even your in-between moments to God, He can turn them into seeds of growth, preparation, and blessing—rather than hours disappearing into nothingness.
Reflection Questions
How do you usually handle downtime or slow moments at work?
Are there patterns that leave you feeling more drained instead of refreshed or prepared?
What are some healthy, God-honoring ways you could use downtime when it comes?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for both busy and quiet moments in my workday. Help me steward my downtime wisely—not in frantic activity, but in intentional, life-giving choices that honor You and prepare me to serve well. Amen.
