Scripture
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3
Devotional
One of the greatest tensions in your work is the desire to control outcomes.
You plan, prepare, work hard, and make decisions with the hope that things will turn out a certain way. When they do, there’s a sense of satisfaction. When they don’t, it can lead to frustration, discouragement, or even doubt.
But this past week offers an opportunity to reflect on a deeper truth: you were never meant to carry the weight of the results.
Think back over the last several days. Where did things go as expected? Where did they not? Were there moments where you felt the pressure to fix, control, or force an outcome?
This desire is natural—but it can also quietly shift your trust away from God and onto yourself.
Scripture reminds us that while we are responsible for our effort, God is responsible for the outcome. You are called to be diligent, wise, and faithful—but the results ultimately belong to Him.
Releasing control doesn’t mean disengaging. It means working with excellence while holding outcomes with open hands.
As you reflect, consider where you may have been holding too tightly to a specific result. God invites you to something different—not less responsibility, but deeper trust.
When you release control, you make space for peace.
When you surrender outcomes, you make room for God to work in ways you cannot see.
Your role is not to guarantee results—it is to commit your work to Him.
Reflection Questions
Where did I feel the strongest need to control outcomes this week?
How did I respond when things didn’t go as planned?
In what situations did I trust God—and where did I rely on myself?
What outcomes am I still holding tightly that I need to release?
Action Step
Identify one situation where you are trying to control the outcome. Write it down and intentionally surrender it to God in prayer, choosing to trust Him with the result.
Prayer
Lord, I confess that I often try to control outcomes that belong to You. Help me to release what I cannot control and to trust You with the results. Teach me to work with diligence and faithfulness while holding everything with open hands. Fill me with peace as I surrender my plans to You. Amen.
