Scripture: “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 (revisited)
Devotional
Few professions demand control like financial advising. You are expected to anticipate, strategize, and prepare for every contingency. But in that necessary diligence lies a spiritual danger: the slow slide into idolatry of control.
Control is not the same as stewardship. Stewardship invites dependence on God. Control attempts to replace Him. When we try to manage every outcome, avoid every risk, and fix every fear, we subtly declare that we are in charge—not God.
Surrender doesn’t mean carelessness—it means humble release. It means doing your best and trusting God with the rest. Let go of the need to orchestrate every result. Trust the Lord to establish the steps you can’t foresee.
Reflection Questions:
Where are you most tempted to grasp for control in your professional life?
How does that tendency affect your peace, prayer life, or decision-making?
What would it look like to practice surrender this week, even in small ways?
Prayer
Father, free me from the idol of control. Teach me to trust Your hand more than my plans. Help me lead with wisdom and rest with confidence in Your sovereignty.
