Resting in Who You Are in Christ [Sunday Edition #4]

Scripture: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” — 1 John 3:1

Devotional

Before you step into another week, God invites you to rest—not from activity alone, but from striving for identity.

You are already who He says you are.

You are His child.

You are chosen.

You are loved.

You are secure—not because of what you accomplish, but because of what Christ has already done.

This is where true rest begins.

When your identity is rooted in your work, rest feels difficult. There is always more to prove, more to achieve, more to maintain. But when your identity is rooted in Christ, rest becomes possible. You are no longer striving to earn what has already been given.

This doesn’t make your work less important—it makes it lighter. It frees you to work with confidence, humility, and peace, knowing that your worth is not at stake.

As you prepare for the week ahead, resist the urge to step back into performance-driven thinking. Instead, begin from a place of truth.

You don’t need to prove yourself this week.

You don’t need to earn approval.

You don’t need to carry the weight of your identity.

You simply need to walk in who you already are.

Let that truth shape how you think, how you respond, and how you approach every responsibility ahead.

When you rest in your identity, your work becomes an overflow—not a foundation.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I truly believe that my identity is secure in Christ, regardless of my work outcomes?

  • Where am I still striving to prove myself?

  • How would my mindset change if I fully rested in who God says I am?

  • What would it look like to enter this next week with confidence rooted in Christ?

Action Step: Choose one identity truth from Scripture (e.g., “I am God’s child,” “I am chosen,” “I am loved”). Write it down and intentionally remind yourself of it at the start of each workday this week.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the identity You have given me through Christ. Help me to rest in the truth that I am already loved, accepted, and secure in You. Break the habit of striving for worth through my work, and teach me to live from a place of confidence in who You say I am. As I enter this new week, let my work flow from identity, not insecurity. Amen.
