Scripture: “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” — Matthew 5:37 (ESV)
Devotional
Not every opportunity is the right opportunity.
In banking, you may encounter situations where saying “yes” seems beneficial—approving a deal, accommodating a request, or moving forward quickly. But there are times when the right response is “no.”
Saying no can be difficult. It may disappoint others. It may create tension. It may feel like you’re missing an opportunity.
But integrity requires clarity and conviction.
A well-placed “no” can protect your client, your institution, and your own integrity. It reflects discernment and a commitment to doing what is right, not just what is possible.
Jesus emphasized the importance of clear and honest responses. Your words should reflect truth, not pressure or hesitation.
When you say yes, mean it. When you say no, stand by it.
Today, trust that saying no when necessary is part of faithful stewardship.
Reflection Questions:
• Do I struggle to say no in difficult situations?
• Where might I be saying yes when I should not?
• How can I respond with clarity and conviction?
Action Step: If faced with a questionable request today, take time to evaluate it carefully before responding.
Prayer
Father, give me wisdom to know when to say yes and when to say no. Help me to act with clarity and conviction in every decision. Amen.
