Scripture: “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.” — Proverbs 29:25 (ESV)
Devotional
In a relationship-driven business, it can feel risky to say “no.” You may fear disappointing a client, upsetting a partner, or losing a referral source. Yet integrity sometimes requires a clear and gracious “no”—to unreasonable requests, unethical suggestions, or simply to obligations that exceed your capacity.
The fear of people’s reactions can trap you in overcommitment, dishonesty, or silent resentment. Trusting God means believing He can sustain your business even when you respectfully decline something that doesn’t align with your values or limits.
Saying “no” doesn’t have to be harsh. You can communicate with kindness and clarity: “I’m not able to represent that in good conscience,” or, “I don’t have the capacity to serve you well on this assignment.” In the long run, people respect brokers who are honest about what they can and cannot do.
Reflection Questions:
· Is there a “yes” I’ve given recently that should have been a “no”? Why?
· How does fear of people’s reactions influence my ability to set healthy boundaries?
Prayer
Lord, free me from the snare of people-pleasing. Give me courage to say “no” when necessary, with grace and honesty, trusting that You honor integrity more than constant agreement. Amen.
