Saying “No” with Integrity [Real Estate Dev #48]

Scripture: “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.” — Proverbs 11:3 (ESV)

Devotional

Not every opportunity is from God. Some deals, partnerships, or expansions may look appealing on the surface but require compromise beneath. That’s why integrity doesn’t just guide your “yes”—it also governs your “no.” Proverbs 11:3 teaches that integrity provides direction. It’s your compass when paths diverge.

Saying “no” may cost you in the short term. You might lose a connection, delay a project, or offend a powerful person. But if the opportunity conflicts with your values, misaligns with your mission, or pulls you into unethical territory, the price of saying “yes” is far higher.

Integrity often means disappointing others to obey God. It means turning down a deal that requires silence about your faith, or walking away from a lucrative offer tied to questionable practices. It’s not about being rigid—it’s about being anchored.

Remember: what you decline shapes your legacy as much as what you accept. Don’t fear a smaller path if it keeps your soul clear. Trust that God honors the decisions made in quiet obedience.

Reflection Questions:

  • Have I said “yes” to something recently that violates my values?

  • Where might God be calling me to say “no” in order to walk in integrity?

  • How do I discern between opportunity and temptation?

Prayer:

Lord, give me wisdom and courage to say “no” when needed. Let integrity guide my decisions, even when it’s costly. I trust that Your way is better than any shortcut. Amen.
