Scripture
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:4 (ESV)
Devotional
Most people come to you thinking about a transaction: a lease, a purchase, a sale, a renewal. But behind that transaction sits a story—a growing business, a struggling company, a family legacy, a retirement plan, or a community dream.
When you look beyond the transaction, you begin to see how deeply your work affects people’s lives. A location decision can make or break a young business. A sale can affect someone’s retirement. A lease negotiation can impact jobs, services, and local culture.
Serving clients well means asking questions that go deeper than “What are you looking for?” It means asking, “Why does this matter to you? What’s at stake? What are your hopes and fears?” Once you understand the story, you can advise more wisely and care more deeply.
You’re not just moving capital—you’re serving people in critical chapters of their journey.
Reflection Questions
How well do I understand the deeper “why” behind my clients’ decisions?
What question could I ask this week to better grasp a client’s bigger story?
Prayer
Father, help me see beyond the transaction into the lives and stories of those I serve. Give me wisdom to advise them in ways that care for both their business and their hearts. Amen.
