Seeing People, Not Just Projects [Real Estate Dev #62]

Seeing People, Not Just Projects [Real Estate Dev #62]

Scripture: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” — Philippians 2:4 (ESV)

Devotional

In development, it’s easy to become project-focused—deadlines, budgets, entitlements, returns. But behind every project are people. Philippians 2:4 calls us to lift our eyes beyond our own interests and see the needs of others.

Every decision you make affects people. A design choice impacts usability. A cost decision impacts safety or quality. A timeline delay affects tenants, employees, and families. Development is never just about land—it’s about lives.

Jesus consistently saw people where others saw problems. He paused for individuals in the middle of larger missions. He valued people over process. As a Christian developer, you are called to do the same.

This means asking different questions:

  • How will this project serve the community?

  • Are we creating something that adds value or just extracting value?

  • Are we considering the long-term impact on people?

When you begin to see people—not just projects—your work becomes more than transactional. It becomes transformational.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where have I become more focused on outcomes than on people?

  • How can I better understand the needs of those impacted by my work?

  • What decision today can better serve people, not just the project?

Prayer

Father, give me eyes to see people, not just projects. Help me lead with compassion and consider the impact of my work on others. Amen.
