Seeing Purpose in Closed Doors [Real Estate Dev #182]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good.” — Romans 8:28.
Devotional
Developers experience closed doors regularly.
A seller accepts another offer. A city rejects a proposal. Financing becomes unavailable. A key tenant changes direction. Months of work suddenly appear to have produced nothing.
Closed doors can feel especially painful when you believed the opportunity was right.
The temptation is to interpret every lost opportunity as failure.
Faith offers a broader perspective.
Romans 8 does not promise that every circumstance will feel good. It promises that God remains at work through all circumstances for the good of those who belong to Him.
Sometimes a closed door protects you from something you could not see.
Sometimes it redirects your resources toward a better opportunity.
Sometimes it exposes weaknesses in your process that needed correction.
And sometimes you may never understand why the door closed.
Wisdom means learning without becoming bitter.
Review the facts honestly. Ask what you could have done differently. Accept responsibility where appropriate.
Then release the opportunity.
Your calling does not depend upon any single project.
The God who opened yesterday's opportunity can open tomorrow's.
A closed door may end one plan, but it never ends God's ability to guide your next step.
Reflection Questions
• Is there a closed door I am still struggling to accept?
• What have previous disappointments taught me?
• Am I allowing one lost opportunity to define my outlook?
Action Step
Write down one lesson and one unexpected benefit that came from a past opportunity that did not work out.
Prayer
Lord, help me trust You when doors close. Give me humility to learn, grace to release disappointment, and confidence that Your purposes extend beyond any single project. Amen.
