Serving Before Selling [Sales Professional #4]

Scripture: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.” — Mark 10:45 (ESV)

Devotional

The sales world often promotes aggressive tactics—push harder, talk more, close faster. But Jesus teaches a radically different approach: serve first.

Serving in sales means genuinely caring about your customer’s needs, not manipulating them toward your preferred outcome. It means listening more than speaking, prioritizing long-term trust over short-term gain, and recommending what is best for the client—even if it means a smaller commission for you.

People can sense the difference between being pressured and being served. When clients feel seen, valued, and respected, trust grows—and trust builds better business than any technique ever will.

Serving reflects Christ. Selling reflects skill. A Christian sales professional brings both, but leads with service.

Ask God to help you serve well today.

Reflection Questions:

·       Do my customers feel served—or sold?

·       How can I be more attentive to client needs rather than personal gain?

·       What would Christlike service look like in my next sales conversation?

Prayer

Jesus, make me a servant in every interaction. Help me put others’ needs above my own and model Your humility in my sales process. Use my service to build trust and honor You. You. Amen.

This devotional is intended to help you integrate your faith into your daily work and calling. It is not a substitute for personal time with God in Scripture, prayer, and worship, which are essential for knowing Christ, loving Him deeply, and becoming more like Him.
