Serving by Taking Initiative [Commercial Broker #119]

Scripture

“Do not grow weary of doing good.” — Galatians 6:9 (ESV)

Devotional

A great deal of client frustration comes from having to ask repeatedly for updates, reminders, or next steps. Serving with excellence means taking initiative—you move first. You update before being asked. You anticipate needs before they’re voiced.

Initiative communicates care and competence. It transforms clients from feeling like they’re chasing you to feeling like you’re walking ahead of them, guiding confidently. It also reflects the character of Christ, who consistently initiated—calling disciples, healing the sick, feeding the crowds.

Taking initiative is a form of doing good. It’s refusing to grow passive or reactive. It’s leading with love in practical, consistent ways. Over time, clients learn: “I don’t have to worry—they’ve already thought about it.”

That reassurance is priceless.

Reflection Questions

Do clients or partners often have to follow up with me—or do I usually take initiative?

What immediate step can I take today to lead proactively instead of reactively?

Prayer

Lord, give me a proactive spirit. Help me move with initiative so that those I serve feel supported and valued, not forgotten. Amen.
