Serving Clients, Not Using Them [Financial Advisor #87]

Serving Clients, Not Using Them [Financial Advisor #87]

Scripture: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” — Philippians 2:3

Devotional

In a results-driven profession, it can be easy to view clients through a transactional lens. Opportunities, accounts, growth potential—these are all part of the business. But if you’re not careful, people can slowly become means to an end rather than individuals to serve.

That’s not the model Christ gave us.

Jesus consistently saw people—not as transactions, but as individuals with dignity, value, and need. He served without agenda, loved without condition, and gave without expectation of return.

As a financial advisor, you are called to do the same.

Your clients are not just portfolios—they are people with fears, hopes, responsibilities, and stories. They are navigating decisions that affect their families, their future, and often their sense of security.

When you shift your mindset from “What can I gain?” to “How can I serve?”, everything changes.

You listen more carefully.

You advise more honestly.

You act more selflessly.

And in doing so, you reflect Christ.

Serving clients well may not always lead to the quickest or most profitable outcome—but it will always lead to the right one.

And over time, integrity-driven service builds trust that goes far deeper than any transaction ever could.

Reflection Questions:

• Do you ever find yourself viewing clients transactionally?

• How can you better understand and serve their true needs?

• What would it look like to prioritize people over outcomes?

Action Step: In your next client interaction, intentionally ask one question focused on their life, values, or concerns—not just their finances—and listen closely.

Prayer

Jesus, help me to see people the way You do. Remove any selfish ambition from my work and teach me to serve with humility, honesty, and care. Amen.
