Serving People, Not Just Projects [Real Estate Dev #14]

Scripture: “But whoever would be great among you must be your servant.” — Mark 10:43 (ESV)

Devotional

Real estate development is inherently project-driven—deadlines, deliverables, and milestones dominate attention. Yet Jesus reminds us that greatness in God’s Kingdom is measured differently. Leadership is not defined by control or accomplishment, but by service. This truth challenges developers to look beyond projects and see people.

Behind every development are individuals: partners, contractors, tenants, community members. When outcomes take priority over people, trust erodes. Servant leadership reorients purpose. People are no longer obstacles to manage or resources to deploy; they are image-bearers deserving dignity and care.

Serving others does not weaken authority—it strengthens influence. Leaders who listen well, act fairly, and treat people with respect create cultures of trust and accountability. Projects become more than transactions; they become opportunities for stewardship and witness.

Christ-centered leadership asks a simple but challenging question: Who is being served by this decision? When service guides leadership, development reflects the heart of God rather than the pursuit of control.

Reflection Questions:

  • Do I prioritize people as much as progress?

  • How does servant leadership reshape my authority?

  • Where can I intentionally serve today?

Prayer

Jesus, teach me to lead as You lead—with humility and service. Help me value people above projects and reflect Your heart through my work. Amen.
