Scripture
“Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” — Romans 15:2 (ESV)
Devotional
Every deal affects people you may never see: employees who will work in the building, customers who will use the space, residents who live nearby, lenders, vendors, contractors, even city officials. Serving well means considering not just your client, but the broader web of stakeholders impacted by the transaction.
This doesn’t mean you can control every outcome. But it does mean you think through implications—parking strain, traffic, community fit, tenant compatibility—and raise concerns when necessary. It means advocating for win-win solutions rather than short-sighted wins for one party.
Seeing the broader impact of your work helps you steward it more intentionally. You begin to realize: “My decisions today shape experiences for countless people tomorrow.” That mindset aligns your heart with God’s, who always sees the whole picture.
Reflection Questions
Do I regularly consider how my deals impact people beyond my immediate client?
Is there a current transaction where I need to think more broadly about downstream effects?
Prayer
Lord, widen my perspective. Help me see beyond my client’s immediate goals to the many people affected by each deal, and guide me to serve for the good of all where I can. Amen.
