Serving Through Difficult Conversations [Commercial Broker #64]

Serving Through Difficult Conversations [Commercial Broker #64]

Scripture

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” — Proverbs 27:6 (ESV)

Devotional

Sometimes the best way to serve a client is by initiating a difficult conversation. Maybe their price expectations are unrealistic, their timing is risky, or their strategy is flawed. It can be tempting to stay quiet to avoid conflict and keep them happy in the short term—but silence can ultimately harm them.

Faithful brokers, like faithful friends, are willing to “wound” in love—to say, “I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but here’s what I believe is wise.” That kind of truth-telling requires courage, humility, and prayer. It means valuing your client’s long-term good more than your short-term comfort.

Difficult conversations can be turning points—either for better strategies or deeper relationships. Even if clients don’t initially like what you say, many will respect your candor and trust you more later.

Reflection Questions

Is there a difficult but necessary conversation I’ve been avoiding with a client or partner?

How can I prepare my heart and my words so that truth is spoken in love, not frustration?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, guide my words in hard conversations. Give me courage to speak honestly and the grace to do it with humility and love, seeking the good of those I serve. Amen.
