Serving Through Honoring Past Efforts [Commercial Broker #127]

Devotional
When you step into a situation, you may inherit work done by previous brokers, staff, or teams. It’s tempting to criticize what came before to elevate your own value: “I’m surprised they didn’t catch this,” or, “I don’t know what your last broker was thinking.”
But love doesn’t build itself up by tearing others down. Serving with excellence means honoring past efforts where you can: “I can see they worked hard to get you to this point. Here’s how we can build from here.” Even if you must correct mistakes, you can do so without contempt.
This approach reflects humility and kindness. It reassures clients that you are focused on solutions, not blaming. It also protects your own heart from pride and judgment.
Remember: someday, someone may inherit your work. How would you want them to speak about your efforts?

Do I ever gain trust by subtly discrediting those who came before me?
How can I speak truthfully about past work without dishonoring people made in God’s image?
Prayer
Lord, help me honor others, even when I need to improve or correct what they’ve done. Guard me from prideful boasting and let my words reflect humility and love. Amen.
