Serving Through Prayerful Preparation for Deals [Commercial Broker #139]

Scripture

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given.” — James 1:5 (ESV)

Devotional

Before a major negotiation, presentation, or decision point, you may review documents, rehearse talking points, or strategize with your team. Those are good practices. But the most powerful preparation you can make is prayer.

Prayerful preparation means you pause and invite God in: “Lord, give me wisdom. Help me see what I’m missing. Guide my words. Soften hearts where needed. Protect me from pride and fear.” You are acknowledging that human skill is not enough for the complexities you face.

God loves to give wisdom to those who ask. He may drop an insight into your mind, adjust your attitude, or prompt you to approach someone differently. Even if nothing external changes, your heart will be more aligned with His—calmer, humbler, and more attentive to the Spirit.

You don’t just work for God; you work with Him. Prayer is where that partnership is forged.

Reflection Questions

How consistently do I pray before key meetings and negotiations?

What regular prayer rhythm could I establish as part of my deal preparation?

Prayer

Father, I need Your wisdom far more than my own. Teach me to prepare in prayer before I prepare in strategy, and to depend on You in every deal. Amen.
