Serving Through Thoughtful Silence [Commercial Broker #118]

Scripture

“Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise.” — Proverbs 17:28 (ESV)

Devotional

Silence is an underrated form of service. In negotiations, silence can create space. In meetings, silence allows others to speak. In client conversations, silence gives room for people to express concerns or emotions they might not share if you rush to fill every moment.

Thoughtful silence is not disengagement—it’s presence. It is the discipline of holding your tongue long enough for others to reveal what they truly think or feel. Jesus often used silence masterfully—He paused, He waited, He let people process.

You serve clients well when you resist the impulse to overtalk or prematurely solve. Sometimes the most loving thing you can do is to be quiet and listen deeply.

Silence gives people room to breathe—and that breathing room can be transformative.

Reflection Questions

Am I too quick to offer solutions or fill silence, not allowing clients space to think?

How can I practice thoughtful silence in my next conversation or meeting?

Prayer

Lord, teach me the wisdom of silence. Help me listen more deeply and create space for others to share what’s truly on their hearts. Amen.
