Serving Through Timely Work [Accountant #177]

Scripture

“Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act.” — Proverbs 3:27.

Devotional

Quality matters, but timing matters too.

A perfectly prepared report delivered after a critical decision may have limited value. An accurate answer provided too late may create unnecessary frustration. Delayed work can prevent other people from completing responsibilities that depend upon yours.

Timeliness is therefore another form of service.

Accountants often sit within interconnected workflows. Your completed reconciliation may allow another person to finish reporting. Your analysis may help leadership make a decision. Your response may allow a client to move forward.

This means procrastination rarely affects only you.

Faithfulness considers the needs of others.

Timeliness does not require unrealistic expectations or constant urgency. Some work genuinely needs additional time. In those situations, clear communication becomes important. Let people know what is realistic rather than allowing silence to create uncertainty.

Good stewardship balances quality with responsiveness.

Ask yourself not only, “Did I do this correctly?” but also, “Did I provide it when it was needed?”

Your reliability can make someone else's work easier.

That too is an opportunity to love your neighbor through your profession.

Reflection Questions

Where do delays in my work affect other people?

Do I communicate proactively when deadlines may change?

What causes me to procrastinate on important responsibilities?

Action Step

Complete or advance one responsibility today that someone else is waiting on.

Prayer

Lord, help me serve others through timely and dependable work. Give me discipline to avoid unnecessary delays and wisdom to communicate clearly. Amen.
