Serving with an Unhurried Spirit [Banker #147]

Scripture

“He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3.

Devotional

Banking can create a constant sense of urgency.

Emails accumulate. Customers wait. Meetings overlap. Deadlines approach. Problems require immediate attention.

When hurry becomes your normal state, it begins affecting how you treat people.

You interrupt more quickly. You listen less carefully. Small inconveniences feel larger. People begin feeling like obstacles between you and the next task.

Jesus carried enormous responsibility, yet the Gospels repeatedly show Him giving people His attention. He was purposeful without appearing controlled by hurry.

An unhurried spirit does not mean working slowly or ignoring deadlines. It means refusing to allow your internal pace to destroy your presence.

You can move efficiently while remaining emotionally and spiritually grounded.

This requires dependence on God. You acknowledge that you cannot accomplish everything at once. You prioritize wisely, focus on the person or task in front of you, and trust God with what remains unfinished.

Your clients and coworkers can often sense whether they truly have your attention.

Sometimes one of the most Christlike things you can give another person is five minutes in which they do not feel rushed.

Reflection Questions

• How does hurry affect my attitude and relationships?

• Do people feel that I am genuinely present when speaking with them?

• What creates unnecessary hurry in my workday?

Action Step

During one important conversation today, put distractions aside and give the person your complete, unhurried attention.

Prayer

Lord, calm the hurried places within me. Help me work diligently without becoming controlled by urgency, and teach me to remain present with the people You place before me. Amen.
