Serving with Humility [Healthcare Professional #15]

Scripture: “Whoever would be great among you must be your servant.” — Mark 10:43 (ESV)

Devotional

Healthcare often places you in positions of responsibility, authority, and expertise. People rely on your knowledge and decisions. While this is a privilege, it can also create subtle temptations toward pride or self-reliance.

But Jesus redefined greatness—not as authority, but as service.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less. It is recognizing that your role is not to elevate yourself, but to serve others.

In practical terms, humility looks like listening well, valuing others’ input, admitting when you don’t know something, and treating everyone with respect—regardless of their role or status.

It also means remembering that your abilities are gifts from God, not achievements to take credit for.

When you serve with humility, you reflect Christ in a powerful way. You create an environment of trust, collaboration, and respect.

Your work is not about proving yourself—it’s about serving faithfully.

Reflection Questions:

• Are there areas where pride may be influencing your attitude or actions?

• How can you intentionally serve others with humility today?

Action Step: Look for one opportunity today to serve a coworker or patient in a way that goes beyond your required responsibilities.

Prayer

Jesus, teach me to serve with humility. Help me to reflect Your heart in the way I care for others. Amen.
