Showing Honor Across the Org Chart [TDPOW #150]

Showing Honor Across the Org Chart [TDPOW #150]

Scripture

1 Peter 2:17 — “Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.”

Devotional

Peter’s command is strikingly broad: Honor everyone. Not just those above you, not only those whose approval you want, but everyone—from the CEO to the custodian, from the long-term employee to the temporary hire.

Honor is different from flattery. It means treating people with genuine respect because they are made in God’s image and, in many cases, because they labor faithfully in roles that often go unnoticed. It looks like learning names, saying thank you, being courteous, and refusing to treat anyone as “beneath” you.

In a culture that often flatters up and ignores down, a believer who honors across the org chart shines brightly. Your respect for people at every level reflects the heart of a Savior who washed His disciples’ feet and welcomed those the world ignored.

Reflection Questions

Are there people in “lower visibility” roles at your workplace whom you tend to overlook?

How might you intentionally show honor to them—through words, attention, or practical kindness?

How can you reflect Christ’s heart in the way you treat every person you encounter at work?

Prayer

Lord, teach me to honor everyone, not just those who can benefit me. Open my eyes to those who are often unseen. Help me treat every person with the dignity and kindness that reflects Your heart. Amen.
