Scripture: “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute.” — Proverbs 31:8 (ESV)
Devotional
As a developer, you may find yourself in rooms where decisions are made that impact people who have no seat at the table—tenants, residents, low-income neighbors, displaced businesses. With influence comes responsibility. Proverbs 31:8 reminds us that God's people are called to use their voice for those who don’t have one—to speak up for justice, fairness, and dignity.
It may feel easier, or safer, to stay silent. Advocacy can complicate relationships or slow down approvals. But silence in the face of injustice is itself a decision. You are not responsible for every outcome, but you are responsible for your voice. Speaking truth to power is not about arrogance or political posturing—it’s about representing God's heart, even in high-stakes environments.
God honors those who act as intercessors—not just in prayer, but in public life. When you use your position to advocate for those overlooked, you reflect the compassion and righteousness of Christ. You may not always win the argument or shift the outcome, but your faithfulness will leave a mark.
Don’t underestimate the spiritual weight of a voice yielded to God. In a world that often prioritizes profit over people, your integrity may be the only justice some ever encounter.
Reflection Questions:
Where do I have influence others don’t—and how am I using it?
Have I remained silent where I should have spoken up?
What does it mean to reflect God’s heart in planning and development decisions?
Prayer
Lord, make me bold and compassionate. Help me use my influence not just for gain, but for good. Teach me to speak truth in love and to reflect Your justice wherever You place me. Amen.
