Stewarding Confidential Information [Banker #129]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.” — Proverbs 11:13.
Devotional
Bankers routinely know things other people do not.
You may know someone's income, debt, investments, business struggles, family circumstances, or financial mistakes. You may become aware of a company's plans before they are publicly known. You may hear sensitive information during meetings or conversations.
That knowledge is a trust.
Professional confidentiality may be governed by laws and policies, but for the Christian banker, it goes deeper. Protecting another person's private information is part of demonstrating trustworthy character.
The temptation to share confidential information does not always appear malicious. Sometimes it arrives as casual conversation, an interesting story, or information that makes you appear knowledgeable or connected.
Wisdom recognizes that information entrusted to you is not automatically yours to share.
Trust takes years to build and moments to damage. Clients and coworkers should have confidence that sensitive matters will be handled carefully when they involve you.
Your discretion may never receive recognition because no one sees the information you chose not to repeat. But God sees that quiet faithfulness.
Protecting another person's confidence is one more way your banking work can reflect His trustworthy character.
Reflection Questions
• How carefully do I handle confidential information?
• Have I ever shared information unnecessarily simply because it made an interesting conversation?
• Would clients and colleagues describe me as trustworthy with sensitive matters?
Action Step
Review your habits around confidential conversations and identify one boundary that could strengthen your discretion.
Prayer
Father, make me trustworthy with everything others place in my care. Guard my words and give me wisdom to protect confidential information with integrity and discretion. Amen.
