Stewarding Professional Success [Attorney #177]
Listen to today's devotional:
Scripture
“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.” — Deuteronomy 8:18
Devotional
Professional success creates opportunities. Greater income, influence, expertise, relationships, and authority can significantly expand what you are able to accomplish. But success also creates spiritual responsibility. It is easy to gradually believe that your achievements belong entirely to you because you worked hard for them.
Hard work certainly matters, but Scripture reminds you that the ability, opportunity, health, relationships, and circumstances behind success ultimately come from God. That makes success something to steward rather than possess. Ask what God wants you to do with the opportunities your career has created.
Perhaps increased resources allow greater generosity. Professional influence may enable you to advocate for important causes. Experience may allow you to mentor others. Flexibility may create new opportunities for service. Success becomes spiritually dangerous when it turns inward, but it becomes Kingdom stewardship when it flows outward. God may continue expanding your influence, but the question remains the same at every level: Will you use what He gives you primarily to elevate yourself, or will you use it to serve His purposes?
Reflection Questions
• How has professional success increased what God has entrusted to me?
• Am I using those resources primarily for myself or also for God’s purposes?
Action Step
Identify one resource your career has provided—money, expertise, influence, time, or relationships—and determine one way to use it for someone else’s benefit.
Prayer
Lord, remind me that every good opportunity comes ultimately from You. Help me steward success generously, humbly, and faithfully for Your purposes. Amen.
