Scripture
Colossians 3:15 — “…and be thankful.”
Devotional
Gratitude is one of the simplest commands in Scripture and one of the most powerful. In the workplace, it can be easy to focus on what’s wrong—unfair policies, difficult people, heavy workloads, or missed opportunities. While those realities matter, a thankless heart slowly corrodes your joy and perspective.
Paul’s instruction is straightforward: “be thankful.” Gratitude doesn’t deny hardship; it chooses to see God’s hand within it. It thanks Him for provision, for skills, for coworkers who bless you, for lessons learned, for doors opened and even for doors closed that protected you.
Stewarding a grateful heart at work may involve intentionally naming specific things you’re thankful for each day, thanking others for their help, and regularly reminding yourself that every good gift is from above. Over time, gratitude softens your heart, brightens your witness, and keeps you anchored in God’s goodness.
Reflection Questions
What specific aspects of your work life can you thank God for today—large or small?
How has ingratitude or constant complaint affected your attitude and relationships?
What simple gratitude habit could you begin (or renew) in your daily routine?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for how quickly I complain and how slowly I give thanks. Open my eyes to Your gifts in my work. Cultivate in me a heart of gratitude that honors You and brings life to those around me. Amen.
