Scripture
Nehemiah 8:10 — “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Devotional
Joy is not the same as cheerfulness or constant positivity. It is a deep, steady gladness rooted in who God is, not in how easy your circumstances are. At work, joy can be a powerful witness—especially in environments marked by pressure, negativity, or complaint.
The “joy of the Lord” is your strength because it anchors you. It reminds you that God is sovereign, His love is constant, and His promises are sure, even when projects fail or days are hard. You may still feel sadness, stress, or frustration, but underneath it all, there is a confidence that you are held by Him.
Stewarding joy means guarding your heart against cynicism and choosing to rehearse God’s goodness. It might look like giving thanks in small things, remembering answered prayers, or quietly worshiping Him in your heart. Joy doesn’t ignore reality; it shines in the midst of it.
