Scripture: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.” — 1 John 5:21 (ESV)
Devotional
Success itself is not wrong, but it becomes dangerous when it takes the place in your heart that belongs only to God. In sales, where performance is constantly measured, success can quietly become an idol—a source of identity, security, and worth.
Signs of idolatry might include:
• Your mood rising and falling entirely on your numbers.
• Compromising values to protect your success.
• Obsessive thinking about results, even when off the clock.
• Feeling empty or worthless when results slow down.
God invites you to enjoy success but worship Him alone. When He is first, you can celebrate wins without clinging to them and face losses without crumbling.
Surrendering the idol of success frees you to work hard to honor God, not to prove yourself. Your deepest identity is not “top producer” or “middle of the pack”—it is “beloved child of God.”
Reflection Questions:
· Has success in sales become too central to my sense of worth or identity?
· What behaviors or emotions suggest that results may be an idol in my life?
· How can I re-center my heart on Christ as my true treasure?
Prayer
Lord, reveal any idol of success in my heart. I surrender my need to be defined by numbers or recognition. Be my ultimate joy, security, and identity, no matter what my stats say. Amen.
