Scripture: “Speak the truth to one another; render in your gates judgments that are true and make for peace.” — Zechariah 8:16 (ESV)
Devotional
Truth-telling in development can be risky. Delivering bad news to a client, addressing internal failures, correcting misleading information—these moments test your courage. Yet Zechariah 8:16 is clear: truth builds peace. Not comfort, not applause—peace. God’s peace is forged through honesty, not avoidance.
Avoiding hard truths may seem merciful or strategic. But dishonesty—by omission or spin—fractures relationships, fuels mistrust, and erodes credibility. Speaking the truth doesn’t mean being harsh. It means being faithful. It means honoring others by treating them as mature image-bearers of God who can handle reality.
You may fear that honesty will cost you. But truth, delivered with grace, builds long-term trust. Even when it's hard to hear, people respect those who tell the truth with humility and clarity.
Let your word be your bond. Let your communication be marked by clarity and compassion. As you speak truth, you reflect the God who never lies and whose Word never fails.
Reflection Questions:
Where have I been hesitant to speak the truth in my work?
What fears keep me from honest conversations?
How can I grow in grace-filled truth-telling?
Prayer
Lord, give me courage to speak truth with love. Help me lead with honesty, even when it's uncomfortable. Let my words build peace and reflect Your faithfulness. Amen.
