The Danger of Loving Recognition [Financial Advisor #36]

Scripture: “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.” — Matthew 6:1a

Devotional

In your profession, success is often public—celebrated with awards, rankings, client testimonials, or firm accolades. Recognition isn’t wrong. But it becomes dangerous when it becomes your motivation.

Jesus cautioned against doing good “to be seen.” He wasn’t condemning visibility—He was confronting the heart’s craving for approval. As a Christian financial advisor, your work may be visible, but your worship must remain vertical—focused on God, not human applause.

Excellence should never be abandoned. But let your excellence be an offering, not a performance. Serve diligently. Lead well. Celebrate milestones. But always remember: your highest reward isn’t here—it’s from the Father who sees in secret and rewards faithfulness done for Him.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does recognition influence your motivation or decision-making?

  2. Are there areas where you’ve sought applause more than obedience?

  3. What does it mean to re-center your work on pleasing God rather than impressing others?

Prayer

Father, help me seek Your approval above all else. Purify my motives. Let my work be for Your glory, even if no one else ever sees or applauds it.
