Scripture: “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.” — Proverbs 12:1 (ESV)
Devotional
Correction is never easy—especially for those in leadership. As a developer, you make decisions constantly and carry significant responsibility. But Scripture doesn’t flatter the proud. Proverbs 12:1 is blunt: to resist correction is foolish. The wise person welcomes discipline, not because it’s pleasant, but because it leads to growth, maturity, and protection.
Being corrected—by a peer, a client, an employee, or even the Holy Spirit—can feel like a threat to authority or competence. But it’s actually a gift. Correction helps you see what pride often hides. It reveals blind spots before they become liabilities. It invites humility into your leadership and aligns your heart more closely with God’s truth.
A teachable spirit is one of the most powerful traits in a leader. It signals strength, not weakness. It shows your team that you care more about getting it right than being right. It also keeps you spiritually soft, able to hear God’s voice through both conviction and counsel.
Don’t dismiss correction—receive it, reflect on it, and let it refine you. The best leaders are still being shaped. Let God use every voice and circumstance to sharpen your integrity and deepen your wisdom.
Reflection Questions:
How do I typically respond to correction or critique?
Is there recent feedback I need to humbly consider?
How can I cultivate a teachable spirit in my leadership?
Prayer
God, give me a heart that welcomes correction. Protect me from pride, and help me see discipline as a tool for growth. Shape me into a wise, humble leader who listens well and leads with grace. Amen.
