Scripture: “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” — Proverbs 28:6 (ESV)
Devotional
In a results-driven industry like real estate development, the temptation to compromise can be subtle but persistent. You may be pressured to overlook a detail, soften a truth, misrepresent a timeline, or shift a number “just a little.” While these decisions may appear harmless—or even justifiable—they erode something far more valuable than profit: your character.
Proverbs 28:6 reminds us that it’s better to have less with integrity than to gain much through crookedness. That’s not a call to avoid success—it’s a call to pursue it rightly. God does not oppose wealth or ambition, but He does oppose deception, manipulation, and self-exalting shortcuts. When you compromise, you may gain ground temporarily, but you lose spiritual footing in the process.
The hidden cost of compromise is not always visible on a balance sheet. It shows up in the erosion of trust, the dulling of conscience, and the drifting of your heart from God’s purposes. What begins as a small deviation can become a long detour. But integrity is its own reward. It brings peace in your decisions, credibility in your leadership, and joy in knowing you’ve honored the Lord.
God sees how you build, not just what you build. He desires integrity in the unseen as well as the visible. Choose the path of honesty—even when it costs. The reward is far greater than the shortcut could ever offer.
Reflection Questions:
Where am I facing a decision that tests my integrity?
What compromises am I tempted to justify “just this once”?
How might God be inviting me to honor Him in private today?
Prayer
Lord, guard me from the slow erosion of compromise. Give me the courage to choose integrity, even when the cost is high. I want to build a life—and a career—that honors You in every detail. Amen..
