The Inner Life Behind the Outer Reputation [Commercial Broker #48]

The Inner Life Behind the Outer Reputation [Commercial Broker #48]

Scripture: “Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV)

Devotional

In commercial real estate, people know your brand, your production, your style. You may be well-regarded in the market as ethical and reliable. Yet God looks deeper—past your reputation, into your heart.

It’s possible to maintain an image of integrity outwardly while harboring pride, resentment, greed, or double-mindedness inwardly. Eventually, what’s inside leaks out. That’s why your private life with God—confession, repentance, Scripture, prayer—is essential. It purifies not just your behavior but your motives.

Ask yourself: Why do I want to be seen as ethical? Is it purely to honor Christ, or partly to build a personal brand? God is gracious, but He invites you into deeper honesty with Him, where He can realign motives and heal divided places.

A life of true integrity flows from a heart continually surrendered to Jesus, not from image maintenance. Let Him shape who you are when no one is watching.

Reflection Questions:

·       Are there any hidden attitudes or motives that contradict the ethical image I project?

·       How can I give God more consistent access to my inner life, not just my outer actions?

Prayer

Lord, search my heart and know me. Purify my motives and bring any hidden sin into the light of Your grace. Make my inner life match the reputation others see. Amen.
