The Integrity of Accurate Reporting [Real Estate Dev #56]

Listen to devotional here.

Scripture: “Putting away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.” — Ephesians 4:25 (ESV)

Devotional

From pro formas to investor updates to municipal filings, real estate development requires a constant flow of reports. The numbers you present shape decisions, manage expectations, and define credibility. Ephesians 4:25 calls us to put away falsehood and speak truth—not only in conversation, but in every form of communication.

It’s tempting to smooth the edges of a report: to make assumptions look like certainties, to shift blame for delays, or to overstate interest in a project. Sometimes the temptation is subtle—“rounding up,” “reframing,” “waiting to disclose.” But even minor misrepresentations create a spiritual drift. If truth is sacrificed in the name of optimism or preservation, your foundation begins to crack.

God sees more than the spreadsheets. He sees the heart behind them. And He delights in integrity that is carried through into the details. Honesty—even when it’s costly—builds trust that no branding strategy can replicate. It allows investors, partners, and city officials to believe you because you’ve proven you’ll tell the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Truthfulness is not just a virtue—it’s a form of stewardship. When you report accurately, you reflect the character of God, who never deceives, and who always deals in truth.

Reflection Questions:

  • Are my reports and updates fully accurate—or selectively framed?

  • What pressures tempt me to exaggerate or omit?

  • How does my reporting style reflect my trust in God?

Prayer

Lord, help me be honest in every report, every email, every number. Keep my heart free from fear and pride, and let truth guide my leadership. May those who hear from me find integrity behind every word. Amen.
