Scripture: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” — Romans 12:15 (ESV)
Devotional
In healthcare, you are often trained to diagnose, treat, and fix. But not every situation can be fixed. Some patients won’t recover quickly. Some diagnoses are heavy. Some moments are simply filled with grief, uncertainty, or waiting.
In those moments, your greatest contribution may not be your expertise—it may be your presence.
Jesus demonstrated this throughout His ministry. He didn’t always rush to solve the situation immediately. He sat with people. He listened. He entered into their pain. Even before raising Lazarus, Jesus wept with those who were grieving. His presence communicated love before any miracle occurred.
As a healthcare professional, you are invited into deeply personal and vulnerable moments. Sitting beside a patient, holding a hand, listening without rushing—these are sacred acts. They reflect the heart of Christ in ways that words and treatments sometimes cannot.
Presence requires slowing down internally, even when everything around you is moving quickly. It means choosing to see the person, not just the condition.
You may never fully know the impact of simply being there—but God does. And He uses your presence to bring comfort, dignity, and peace into difficult spaces.
Reflection Questions:
• Do you tend to focus more on tasks than on being present with people?
• How can you be more intentional about offering your presence today?
Action Step: During one patient interaction today, pause, make eye contact, and give your full attention without rushing, even for just one minute.
Prayer
Lord, help me to slow down and truly be present with those I serve. Use my presence to reflect Your comfort and care. Amen.
