Scripture: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus…” — Colossians 3:17a (ESV)
Devotional
It’s easy to divide life into sacred and secular—church on Sunday, legal practice the rest of the week. But Scripture dismantles that divide. Everything you do—every brief, every negotiation, every closing argument—can be done in the name of Jesus. And when it is, it becomes sacred.
Your legal calling is not beneath the kingdom of God—it is part of it. You are not just earning a living. You are fulfilling a vocation. Your work is a mission field, your firm a place of ministry, your cases opportunities for discipleship and witness.
Colossians doesn’t call us to preach in the courtroom. It calls us to represent Christ in the courtroom—through our words, our actions, our ethics, and our demeanor. Your billing may not feel like worship, but when done with integrity, it is. Your client conversations may seem routine, but when seasoned with grace, they become sacred.
You don’t need to change careers to serve God. You simply need to do your current work in His name.
Let that truth renew your purpose. You are not a lawyer who happens to be a Christian. You are a Christian who has been called—by God—to practice law for His glory.
Reflection Questions:
How have you viewed your profession—as sacred, secular, or somewhere in between?
What would change if you believed your legal work was holy ground?
How can you make today’s tasks a form of worship?
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for calling me into law. Teach me to see every part of my work as worship. Let me do all things in Your name, for Your glory, and with Your Spirit’s strength.
