Scripture: “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” — 1 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV)
Devotional
As a commercial broker, you’re entrusted with sensitive information—tenant financials, landlord motivations, buyer strategies, off-market opportunities, and early-stage plans that could affect pricing or competition. How you handle that information reveals the kind of steward you are.
Gossiping about a client’s situation to impress others, casually sharing confidential details, or using inside knowledge to position yourself at someone else’s expense may seem like “industry norms,” but Scripture calls you higher. You are a steward, not an owner, of what others entrust to you. Faithful stewards guard, not exploit.
Treat confidential information like something holy. Ask yourself, “Would I say this if my client were in the room? Would I feel comfortable if this conversation were recorded?” Integrity with information builds deep trust—and trust is one of the most valuable currencies in commercial real estate.
Your clients may never know every way you protected them, but God does. He delights in those who prove faithful with what is hidden.
Reflection Questions:
· Am I ever careless with confidential information, even in “harmless” conversations?
· How can I strengthen my boundaries around what I share and with whom?
Prayer
Lord, make me a faithful steward of every piece of information entrusted to me. Guard my lips from careless talk and my heart from using confidential knowledge for selfish advantage. Amen.
