Scripture: “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” — James 3:1 (ESV)
Devotional
The role of a legal professional carries immense weight. When clients entrust you with their stories, their freedoms, their futures—you represent more than a legal opinion. You stand between their hopes and fears, their past and potential.
James warns of the responsibility that comes with influencing others. While he’s speaking to teachers, the principle applies broadly: leadership carries spiritual gravity. How you advise clients, how you argue your case, how you shape precedent or policy—it matters eternally.
This isn’t meant to paralyze you with fear, but to invite reverence. Don’t take lightly the stewardship you hold. In your legal practice, you’re shaping lives, outcomes, and even societal norms. Do it not with ego, but with godly awe.
Let your representation reflect more than your firm—it should reflect your faith. May your conduct preach even louder than your arguments.
Reflection Questions:
Do you feel the spiritual responsibility of the people and institutions you represent?
Where have you been tempted to see clients as cases rather than image-bearers?
What would change if you viewed every representation as an act of worship?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the trust clients place in me. Help me handle their stories with care, wisdom, and truth. Let my work be a reflection of Your grace.
This devotional is intended to help you integrate your faith into your daily work and calling. It is not a substitute for personal time with God in Scripture, prayer, and worship, which are essential for knowing Christ, loving Him deeply, and becoming more like Him.
