The legal profession places you in contact with people from every background and circumstance. Some interactions are easy and professional. Others may involve tension, disagreement, or frustration.
Regardless of the situation, every person you encounter carries inherent dignity because they are created in the image of God.
Treating others with dignity means more than basic professionalism. It means listening respectfully, speaking thoughtfully, and refusing to diminish or dismiss others—even in adversarial situations.
This can be challenging in a profession built around conflict and debate. It is easy to become transactional or overly focused on outcomes. But as a Christian attorney, you are called to reflect Christ not only in your arguments, but in your attitude toward people.
Respect does not mean avoiding hard conversations or compromising your position. It means maintaining humility and recognizing the humanity of the person across from you.
People may forget your exact words, but they will remember how you treated them.
Your ability to honor others—even in disagreement—becomes a powerful testimony of character and faith.
