Trusting God with Delays [Real Estate Dev #181]

Scripture

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” — Psalm 37:7.

Devotional

Few things test a developer's patience like delays.

An entitlement hearing gets postponed. Financing takes longer than expected. A utility provider misses a deadline. Construction materials arrive late. A tenant needs additional time before committing.

Every delay affects something else. Schedules shift. Carrying costs increase. Investors ask questions. Teams grow frustrated.

Because developers are accustomed to solving problems, waiting can feel particularly uncomfortable. You naturally want to identify the obstacle and remove it.

Sometimes that is exactly what responsible leadership requires.

But not every delay can be solved through greater effort.

Psalm 37 calls you to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. That does not mean becoming passive. It means continuing to fulfill your responsibilities without allowing impatience to control your attitude.

God can use delays in ways you cannot immediately see. A postponed closing may reveal information you needed. A slower entitlement process may improve the project. Additional time may allow financing, design, or market conditions to strengthen.

Not every delay is God's direct intervention, but every delay remains within His sovereignty.

Do what you can faithfully.

Then trust Him with what you cannot accelerate.

Waiting becomes much easier when you remember that your schedule is not greater than God's wisdom.

Reflection Questions

• What delay is creating the most frustration for me right now?

• Am I doing everything reasonably within my responsibility?

• What might God be teaching me while I wait?

Action Step

Identify one delayed situation and separate what you can responsibly address from what you must entrust to God.

Prayer

Father, give me patience when progress moves more slowly than I desire. Help me remain diligent without becoming anxious and trust that You are present even in delays I cannot control. Amen.
